It's nearly Friday, which means only 2 more days till scavenging once again. We, Clinton and I, live in a huge apartment complex consisting of somewhere around a dozen high rises. Each Sunday is recycling and large trash day, which means all the other koreans haul all their recyclebles as well as extra stuff downstairs. What they deam "garbage" and what we do, are definitely 2 different things. I think it's partly that they always want new things and that it's also just some sort of bizarre status thing, to be able to throw away perfectly good stuff (way bettter than goodwill). Course, yes they do throw away actual junk too, but seriously...the average westerner would be pretty surprised to see nice couches and chairs tossed just because. So, since living here I've become quite a scavenger. Nearly everything in my place, minus a few things, are pretty decent things otherwise known here as "garbage". Last week Clinton and I hauled up a slightly used leather couch and hardly used leather chair. Now, we officially have a furnished living room. Not bad for nothing. I just found a full length mirror for Clinton last night too, on the way home from class. It's really pretty funny, just seeing these things and generally waiting for the cover of night to cart them on home. What will we find next?...
